Masjid Besar Al Hidayah Bedugul

The Great Mosque of Al Hidayah Bedugul, Bali, was established in 1927 and stands as a symbol of religious harmony in the Bedugul area. The mosque has undergone several renovations, including major restorations in 2009 and 2016, which elevated its status to a nationally recognized model mosque.

The history of the Muslim community in Bedugul dates back to the 1830s, when the area was first opened for settlement. At that time, three Muslim family leaders and four Hindu families worked together to clear the forest near the hills and the lake, an area now known as Candi Kuning.

The spread of Islam in Bedugul is believed to be connected to Habib Umar bin Maulana Yusuf Al-Magribi, who was also known as the King of Beratan during his time.

The name “Bedugul” itself is often associated with cultural harmony: “bed” referring to the bedug (a traditional Islamic drum) and “kul-kul” referring to the Hindu wooden slit drum. This combination symbolizes the long-standing bond of brotherhood and tolerance between the communities in the region.
